Thursday Task Force Becomes Soil to Soul Saturdays!!!

Updated: 4 days ago

In order to make our taskforce sessions more accessible, we have decided to change them to a weekend day to allow working individuals and families to attend if they'd like to.

We will still be focussing on completing tasks that we may not have had time to complete as part of our normal day-to-day horticulture supporting our learners & trainees. Some of our work will not be suitable for small children, so please just drop us an email if you're thinking of coming to a session and we'll let you know if it is suitable for all.

Tea, coffee and biscuits provided and we'll run from 10 until 3 on the 4th Saturday of the month - 30th May, 27th June, 18th July (No working group in August, Giant Veg Show in September), and 24th October.

Winter dates will be confirmed nearer the time.

Throughout the seasons we will change the work we do according to what is most needed, so this will cover tasks such as:-

  • Winter pruning of our apple trees

  • Christmas tree planting & pruning

  • Apple tree grafting

  • Weeding

  • Mulching

  • Compost Heap creation & maintenance

  • Sowing & planting crops in the ground

  • Side-shooting and winding cucumber and tomato plants

  • Harvesting

  • Apple Pressing & Pasteurising

  • Wreath making harvesting & preparation

You will form a valuable part of a team led by our Growth Manager, Sally, who will set and plan and explain the tasks, give tool talks and guidance and work alongside you each week.

We have 217 apple trees and 120 varieties so our apple season and orchard management work is extensive so our task force will play a vital role in supporting this work.

To get involved, please email Sally on hort@kehellandtrust.org.uk to express your interest in joining the volunteering team.
